Weekend Fun In Cronulla

This morning saw some super fun, uncrowded waves out the Island, which played host again to internationals Jared "Jerry' Houston and Michael "Rat" Ostler, as well as a few keen groms, and the staff from Emerald. You know it was fun when you find out we didn't open up the shop till 11:30 this morning!

SIC Nearly Runs!!

The competitors in the 2010 Shark Island Challenge were put on notice that the swell and winds may have been combining for a possible day of competition on Friday 23rd July. Everyone showed up in the morning, but the call was to keep the comp on hold and wait for decent conditions. There was a few fun waves though, so most of the competitors got out amongst it with a few of the locals, and some amazing surfing was witnessed. Below are a few frame grabs of the action that went down. Courtesy of Rich Lornie.

Fun Island Lefts

The waves have been pretty small during this year's Shark Island Challenge waiting period. All the local guys made the most of what was on offer on Wednesday the 14th July out the Island when the lefts roared into action. This was one of the few days that they have been good this year, so we made the most of it and didn't open Emerald until after 1pm that day!!

Here are a few frame grabs of the action out there, courtesy of local film guy Richard Lornie. Keep an eye out for his new vid coming soon called EVERYBODY CHOUT!! Teaser clip here

Shipsterns 6/7/2010

Team Rider Glen Sullivan recently made the trip down to Shipsterns Bluff on the southern tip of Tasmania to surf the notorious big wave spot known as Shippies. With the all clear from the Physio after an incident a week or two earlier at Luna Park, he headed down with Andrew Lester also from Cronulla. Below are a couple of pics from their trip.

SIC Event Update!

With the past month in Cronulla at the island not getting above 3ft, organisers of the Shark Island Challenge have been forced to extend the waiting period. The original dates were June 14th to July 14th, but has now been extended to August 5th. Check out what Fluidzone had to say about it-

The official word on the Fluidzone Shark Island Challenge is that we are extending the waiting period to the 5th of August. With a less than average few weeks its been a hard couple of weeks for all the contest directors and support team. Contest director Alex Leon has made the official call to extend to the 5th of August and hope for mother nature to the rest.

Within the next block of dates we have a period of bad tides which leaves the 21st of July until the 26th of July unable to run the event.

We are currently tracking down all the riders and getting another update form them to keep your posted on what its like to put your life on hold for the Shark Island Challenge.
