Thursday - Still pumping!!

On Thursday, we woke to find that the swell had dropped a bit, but there were still plenty of kegs to be had out the Island. Once the tide rose a little from low, we headed out, greeted by 4-6ft sets with the occasional bigger one. This was the third day in a row where the Island was clean, offshore and pumping!

Our mate Rich Robson was on hand to capture the action from atop the Point.

Check out more of Rich's pics from the last few days on his Flickr page HERE

Just as the session was coming to a close, the boys were all forming a line in the channel, about to paddle in, when Lester got a cracker!!! Check the sequence below! What a crowd pleaser... He let out a big yell in the pit as well, to acknowledge the claims and hoots coming from the boys in the channel!

Shark Island on Fire

This week the Island erupted from its long slumber, with a solid east swell and good winds! This swell saw what some have described as the best waves out the island in at least 3-4 years breaking over the infamous rock ledge in Cronulla. On Wednesday, the pick of the days, we woke to scenes like this.

Once the tide got up enough to surf it, the whole crew headed out there, including locals Dave Ballard, Rissole, Wazza, John Showell, Andy Lester, Sam Strachan, Shaun Pyne, Des and Josh Kaihe. We were also joined by big names such as Mark McCarthy, Ben Player, Michael Novy, Jose Marquina and Toby Player.

There were a whole pack of photog's out to catch all of the action, so keep your eyes peeled to see some intense shots from that day! Local youngster Josh "Blacky" Kaihe got the wave of the day, scooping into an absolute monster, before getting spat out over Surge. Check the shot below of Josh's keg!

You can also view some shots of the day on Fluidzone. Water shots by Phil Gallagher like the one below show the intensity.

Welcome To The Team: Mark Watts!!

We would like to officially welcome Mark "Wattsy" Watts to the Emerald Team!!! Wattsy is another of the South African up-and-comers who has been really pushing it of late. Mark made a big impression in Hawaii this year, charging through several rounds of the 2011 Pipeline Pro event. Mark may be small in stature, but what he lacks in height, he makes up for in courage! He is not affraid to push himself in big waves, recently scoring a session out Waimea Shorey, among other standout sessions in Hawaii.

Wattsy has also graced the cover of Sixty40 mag in South Africa, and getting a double page spread charging out Pipe in the Portuguese online mag Prone Media.

Mark is currently also sponsored by Star Crossed Tatoo Shop in Hong Kong.

Check out our Team Riders page for more shots of Wattsy killing it.

Thanks to Sasha Specker for the shots!! Cheers Bru!

NEW TEAM RIDER: CAM GREEN

Emerald would like to extend a big warm welcome to CAM GREEN to the team! Cam is an absolute hellman, whose antics at Shipsterns have been well documented recently. Cam however is no one-dimensional big wave charger, as he possesses great technical skill in the smaller juice as well, with good comp results to prove this.

At 18 years old, Cam's quest for big heaving pits and crazy ramps has taken him to places such as Indonesia, South Australia, Queensland, and Hawaii, as well as the obvious abundance of waves in his home state of Tasmania.

Cam has just recently signed with HB Bodyboards, and also rides for Hollic Clothing
